What is a St Patrick’s Day Martini?

Honestly, a St Patrick’s Day Martini could be many things. Any green martini could qualify. However, for this recipe, it’s a vanilla mint shake martini or a “shamrock shake cocktail”.

This creamy cocktail combines Bailey’s Vanilla Mint Shake Liqueur with vodka, adds a bit of half-and-half, and tops off with whipped cream and Andes mint shavings for the perfect cheers!

Obviously, Bailey’s Vanilla Mint Shake Liqueur inspired this recipe. I added vodka, clear creme de menthe, and half-and-half to complete the drink. I also included a green sugared rim and Andes mint shavings to garnish with whipped cream. While it isn’t a completely novel recipe, it’s not overly common. But it IS 100% yummy!

Ingredients for Shamrock Shake Cocktail

You need the following items to shake up this cocktail. Bailey’s Vanilla Mint Shake Liqueur is listed as a limited edition item. However, I have found it in a couple of states year-round. You can also check the Bailey’s website too.

  • Bailey’s Vanilla Mint Shake Liqueur
  • vodka
  • creme de menthe
  • half-and-half
  • whipped cream
  • green sanding sugar
  • simple syrup

Try your luck at making this festive St Patrick’s Day martini!

  1. Rim the glass. Place a small amount of simple syrup on one saucer and spread a good layer of the green sanding sugar on the other.
  2. Dip the edge of the martini glass in the simple syrup first and then in the sanding sugar. Make sure the rim is well-coated all the way around

Top Tips – St Patrick’s Day Martini

• This is a stronger cocktail that can be made as one large (8-9 ounce) martini as shown or split into two smaller martinis.

• You can use either clear or green creme de menthe. I used clear and as you can see, it’s still a greenish drink (even without the sanding sugar). The sanding sugar will drip down into the drink which helps the color.

• For the chocolate shavings, I grated an Andes mint. However, you can use any kind of shavings such as a Hershey’s chocolate bar or even ready-made.
